END OF THE OLYMPICS.
Finally the Summer Olympic games are over and done with. And although I've always believed the Olympic Games to be a total waste of time, not to mention the fact that most of host nations for the games use them as a form of bragging rights, ie; "hey, look at us! They're staging the Olympics in our little country, so we're better than the rest of you, n'yah, n'yah, n'yah," there are still a few deluded saps who love the so-called "pageantry" of the games. Still, I am happy to learn that the majority of gold and silver medals were won by the American athletes, most of whom were women, which I'm sure came as quite a shock to the macho sensibilities of the men of Rio where this year's summer games were held. And, as usual, there were moments of totally unsportsmanlike conduct as when an Israeli won the judo competition against an Egyptian. And when the Israeli extended his hand, the Egyptian refused to shake it. This illustrates the fact that many countries hosting the Olympics will use them for political purposes, such as Nazi Germany which used the 1936 Olympics to showcase the alleged superiority of the so-called "Aryans," only to see that illusion evaporate when an African American, Jesse Owens, soundly beat Germany's best in track and field and a white American, Don Budge, totally humiliated Germany's Baron Gottfried von Cramm in tennis. The bottom line is that the Olympics have become far too politicized. And that is why I believe the United States should opt out of any future Olympic Games. They are a waste of time and talent today just as they were a waste of time and talent in ancient Greece. The sad fact, however, is that while the Summer Games are over, there is still the upcoming Winter Games which will be held in South Korea. God help us all.

My Enforced Absence
To all my fans in DA who have wondered at my absence from my profile, I am now able to give you all a much needed explanation. Due to a malfunctioning computer that would not let me get out of DA "Eclipse" and back to my old profile, I have been unable to upload pics or answer any comments or queries from you folks out there in DA land. However, I have replaced my malfunctioning and, albeit, elderly PC ( the machine was 7 years old) and have now obtained a whole new machine and am now able to participate in all things DA. To quote Mark Twain, "reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." And so it is he

Charles MansonThe Demon Hippie
November 19, 2017 saw the passing of the poster child of cultism and mass murder, Charles Milles Manson, at age 83. History has a plethora of notorious figures who can truly be called evil, including Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Ho Chi Minh, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Pol Pot and more recently, Kim Jong Un. And so it was with Charles Manson. His face with it's wild, staring eyes, scraggly hair and beard and the "X" that he carved into his forehead between his eyes (which was later modified into a swastika) has become symbolic of the horror, terror and the dysfunction of the 60s generation. The passing of Ian Brady
On May 15th of this year, one of the most notorious serial killers in the history of British crime passed away at age 79, the male half of the killer couple known as the Moors Murderers, Ian Duncan Brady. Born in 1938 in the slums of Glasgow, Scotland to an unwed bar maid, Brady as child showed high intelligence, but also evidenced
Passing of an American Hero
This year has seen the passing of one of the icons of America's space program. That icon was John H. Glenn Jr., the first American to orbit the earth in February of 1962. Glenn was one of the original seven astronauts of the Mercury program. And like the other six astronauts had been a Marine Corps fighter ace during the Korean War and later a test pilot who set a non-stop coast to coast air speed record of three hours. Originally scheduled for seven orbits in his Mercury space capsule, Friendship 7, the flight was shortened to three orbits when a telemetry signal from his spacecraft informed ground control that his heat shield had co

Boston, Hamburg and now Rome have all withdrawn from Olympic bids. Seems like some sense is surfacing at last. The London 2012 Olympics cost £8,770,000,000 ($11,370,000,000) or to put it into context £137 for every inhabitant of the UK Everyone's commentaries on the commercialism and politics is spot on. Draping the national flag is another. Watch out though, Los Angeles is still in the running, get ready to open your wallet and repeat the mantra "Help Yourself". Still as one who spent more time and energy avoiding cross country runs at school rather than participating I'm not one to comment.
p.s. have just found your artwork, it's really, really good. Well worth adding to my watch list. I'm off to have a look at Gulliver63 now.
