Death Ship

Description

The spaceship E-89, cruising above the thirteenth planet in star system 51.  The year, 2117.  In a little while, the ship will land and specimens will be taken, vegetable, mineral and if any, animal.  These will be brought back to an over-populated Earth where technicians will evaluate them and, if everything proves satisfactory, stamp their findings with the word "inhabitable," and thereby open up yet another planet for colonization.  For the elite all-woman crew of spaceship E-89, Capt. Simpson, Lt. Griffin and Lt. Wong, these are the things that are supposed to happen. . .

"Listen," said Capt. Simpson, "all this doesn't prove anything!."  She pointed at the open window.  "There is our ship!"  She then pointed at the corpses on the deck.  "And those are not our bodies."  "But there's no other answer," replied Lt. Griffin, tears welling up in her eyes.  "What else could it be?"  Lt. Wong had said nothing.  Instead she stood there, gaping at the three identical bodies and whimpering in terror.  "There's got to be an answer to all this, " Capt. Simpson said.  "And we're going to find it, no matter what."

In collaboration with my good friend and fellow DA member, Gulliver63, I present my latest artwork based on a little known Twilight Zone episode, "Death Ship," in which a group of astronauts, having landed on an alien planet, are confronted with their own dead bodies inside their crashed spaceship.  For my version, I have substituted Marge Simpson, Lois Griffin and Futurama's Amy Wong.  Here, the ladies have entered a smashed-up version of their ship and are met with the sight of their own dead bodies.  Lois and Amy are afraid to even guess at what their situation may be.  Only Marge has the force of will to try to hold everything together, although she won't even consider what is obvious to her crewmates. (medium: pen and ink, Copic color markers).
